We Are Finished!
I want to thank all the contractors, who when asked, committed themselves and their companies to help us build the Lucas family a new home.

Some of these are the people we use on every home we build,

Like Jonathan Speas of Speas Excavating, who spent hours upon hours clearing and grading the site.

Keith Hertzler of American Dirtworkx, who teamed up with Don Benson to dig our footings as well as run every piece of equipment we had on site whenever it was needed.

A few words of thanks
Everyday i feel more and more honored to be working on this project. Watching the home come together so quickly with this family of volunteers is like watching a child grow.

I want to say thank you to my friends Sherri and Lori at Kickin' Country for being my go to girls. Also, Ruby Tuesdays is my new favorite restraunt! These guys have been feeding our crew the best dinners! Last night the shrimp and fish was awesome and today the hickory chicken sandwhich is excellent!

Community Support
I want to take the time to write a special note of thanks to the students of Longwood University and Hampton-Sydney College. These students have shown up to volunteer in large numbers all week. The ones that have been lucky enough to work on site were very efficient and enthusiastic. And just as important, the ones that stood at volunteer check-in for hours without luck were great company and kept things positive and exciting.

A special thanks to the Eckert's of Midtown Mailboxes in Farmvill...

Day 5 and things are going great!
This morning after a brief power-nap I got up to find progress had slowed a bit in the early morning hours. The crew had slimmed out some and there were not enough volunteers for the AM shifts. On top of that we came to find out that the measurements for the windows and doors were wrong.

However in no time things picked up, and volunteers began to arrive. We made an emergency call to local radio stations for carpenters, they showed up, and we were back in business. My hard working c...

Construction Has Begun!
Today is Wednesday and we’ve begun construction. We’re all so excited, and things really seem to be taking shape.

Early this morning we had what the production crew call the “braveheart” march, and it was awesome. Accented by the beautiful snow our team marched up Bradshaw Farm Rd. in a triumphant display of enthusiasm!

Construction officially started today, kicking off with demolition we quickly moved into the framing of the house, and in just over 10 hours we’re already at...

Day two already...
Even though construction on the actual home hasn’t started, there are already so many people on the site working incredibly hard. I have never seen such hard workers with such big smiles. There is such an incredible energy on the job site.

I want to thank Spea’s Excavating for doing some really heavy site clearing and earth moving today. Those guys are the best at what they do.

Also, thanks to Pepsi Co of Lynchburg for coming out to supply us with Aquafina and sodas for the entire week! A...

The First Day!
Today was a great day for the Ken Broadwater Homes family. We had the tremendous honor of meeting the Lucas family this morning. Now more than ever, I can’t wait to start putting the pieces of their dream home together!

We had so much fun working with everyone today from the production company to Chic Fil-A who came out to feed 100 of us dinner. We were blessed with a clear and beautiful day. Even when it started getting really cold as the evening approached our spirits were still high. The ...

Civil War Preservation and Remembrance
In creating this website for Ken Broadwater it was clear to see from the information supplied about the family that Mr. Lucas is not just your average "history buff", but that he has a deep passion and love for this particular subject.

In the press release provided by ABC this same passion is again acknowledged as they highlight some of his past work in preserving Civil War battlefields as well as his sizeable and growing collection of memorabilia from this time as well.

Therefore, in crea...
